This work has its origin in the communications of the “Course Basic of Paleopatología”, organized by the Unitat d'Antropologia of the Department of Biology Animal, Vegetal Biology and Ecology of the Faculty of Sciences of the Independent Universitat of Barcelona, in collaboration with the Hospital of the Sagrat Cor of Barcelona, and realized in March of 2000. The Paleopatología also studies the evidences of disease found in human rest and in vegetables and animal. This multidisciplinary science has a contained fort doctor and biological although specialistic coming from other disciplines they contribute new concepts, ideas, findings and interpretations. The information that offers the book is especially basic and deals with the techniques and its application, on which the diagnoses can be based. There is a series of subjects that have received special attention: the vegetal paleopatología and animal, because a thematic one is forgotten, even in international classic texts; the old DNA, to the being a newness very important for the paleopatología studies and to perhaps represent the greater challenge, but also the hope of future of this discipline; the pathologies in momias, a subject of most spectacular, and the paleopatología in homínidos, by its relevance in the studies of human evolution of great impact.
